Objections pile up against shelter

The Kane County Zoning Board of Appeals heard objections this week to a proposal to create an emergency overnight shelter in Valley View.

The H.E.L.P.S. Ministry, 6N571 Tuscola Ave., proposes the overnight shelter. Neighbors have objected, saying homeless people will wander their neighborhoods and the presence of a shelter will bring down property values.

Also objecting was a developer of 200 townhouses near the project, saying the shelter would have a negative affect on sales.

Church leaders say the shelter is for emergency overnight purposes, not all day, and that those served would be brought in and out by bus so no one would be in the neighborhoods.
